PUKAKI POWER
Talks With Runholders (From Out Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Sept 12. The re-allocation of stations affected by the raising of Lake Pukaki as part of the recently-approved Upper Waitaki hydro-electric scheme is being discussed in the area by officers of the Lands Department and the runholders concerned. The Minister of Lands (Mr Maclntyre) said this in Parliament today after being asked by R. L. G. Talbot (Nat, Ashburton) if he could indicate when a decision on re-allocatlon would be made. Mr Talbot also asked how soon the runholders could expect help with the resiting of homesteads and the planting of shelter belts. “On-the-spot discussions with the runholders are taking place this week,” Mr MacIntyre said, “and a report on the outcome of these discussions should be available very soon. If any boundary adjustments are to be made, those affected will be informed without delay of what is proposed.” Mr Maclntyre explained that the matter of helping the runholders would be a matter for the Minister of Works (Mr Allen).
