Sacrifice Of Boy
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright > NEW DELHI. Sept. 12.
An Indian building contractor sacrificed a 12-year-old boy before starting construction of a dam, the Rajasthan State Assembly was told in New Delhi today. Uproar broke out in the Assembly when the Home Minister (Mr Hirala Devpura) said the boy’s neck had been slit with a knife before dam building began in Udaipur district on May 21. He had been working as a labourer.
Opposition members called for the Government’s resignation and angry Assembly men demanded why the police had taken so long to act. Four people were arrested after the boy’s body was found on July 4, some five weeks after his father reported him missing.
Menzies Improving. Sir Robert Menzies is continuing to make satisfactory progress at a London clinic where he was admitted last Thursday after what is believed to have been a slight stroke.— London, September 12.
