PERSONAL PROTEST
(N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)
NAPLES, Sept. 11. Saddened and angered by the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia, an Italian painter, Sante Monachesi, decided there was one personal action of protest he could take. He has shut himself up in a large wooden box draped in black and has vowed not to come out until the Russians have left Czechoslovak soil. He entered the box several days ago, since when he has spent his time painting and playing a mouth organ. Local people and tourists gather outside the box every day to hear the painter, who is in his fifties, expound his theories on life and politics.
