Classrooms Approved

A tender for the construction of six permanent classrooms at the Mairehau High School was expected to be let soon, said the headmaster (Mr A. B. Ryan) at a meeting of the board of governors yesterday. The chairman (Mr W. Cartwright) read a telegram from the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella) advising that the Department of Education had approved a grant to cover the classrooms and ancilliary equipment. Mr Ryan said the letting of a tender in the next few weeks would ensure that the classrooms would be ready for the 1970 school year. In his report to the board, Mr Ryan said a start had been made in preparing the site for the school library although actual building would not begin for several days. He said that there had been a time lag probably to allow the suppb of laminated beams to replace the steel portals which were originally to have been used. The change had been because of an economy measure by the Government earlier in the year.
