Hosts To Contest

The Canterbury DriverTrainer Association, which is running the competition, was formed in July, 1965, with the aim of promoting interest in the transport industry in Canterbury. The first driver-trainer scheme was launched by the Training Within Industry division of the Labour Department with a pilot course in Wellington. The first full course was held in Auckland in March, 1965, followed in April of the same year with a course in Christchurch.

It was after this second course that the association was formed and it has set itself to the training of young drivers in the correct methods of driving heavy trade vehicles and in the safe handling of all types of cargo and consumer goods. The association attempts to instil road safety consciousness in all young drivers.
