Fortas Asked To Testify
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Sept. 10.
The Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday invited Justice Abe Fortas to testify again on his controversial nomination by President Johnson to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Republican opponents of the nomination asked that the committee reopen its hearings, begun in July. They alleged that Mr Fortas, an associate justice of the Supreme Court for three years, violated the constitutional separation of powers between the judicial and executive branches of Government by advising the President on a number of legislative and other matters.
