INOFFENSIVE WEAPON
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. The Minister of Police (Mr Allen) said today that it was not considered necessary to ban the importation of catapults which were alleged to be capable of burying a quarter-inch ball-bearing in a one-inch board from a distance of 14ft. Mr G. Christie (Lab., Napier) had asked if Mr Allen would take steps to Tiave the catapults withdrawn from sale.
“Catapults are not offensive weapons in terms of legislation," Mr A"cn said. “There have been no reported incidents of their causing injury in the five years in which they have been imported and on sale and it is not considered necessary to have their importation banned.”
