PENSIONERS’ INCOMES
Petition To Parliament (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. Special economic arrangements for senior citizens are sought in a petition presented to Parliament today. Mr A. J. Faulkner (Lab., Roskill) presented the peti tion on behalf of Mr L. A. Rogerson, of Mount Roskill, Auckland, and 1176 others. The petitioners are mainly members of the Auckland senior citizens’ and old folks’ clubs.
The petition said that senior citizens were having difficulty meeting payments such as telephone rentals and medical expenses. It said they sought an adjustment in allowable incomes, and reform of statutory processes for the determination of their incomes.
Engineering Problems.—A six-man committee has been appointed by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall) to examine the problems of the heavy-engi-neering industry and to provide closer liaison between the industry and the Government. —(P.A.)
