U.N. SOCIAL WORK
‘Little Known Of Projects’ (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. People in developing countries knew more about the work of the United Nations in all its aspects than those in advanced countries, the recently-appointed director of the United Nations information centre for Australia and New Zealand, Dr J. S. Szuszkiewicz, said today. “People should know that the United Nations is not only associated with political affairs. 1 have found in Australia—l cannot yet speak for New Zealand—that many political activities of the United Nations are known, but the people do not know of the vast economic and social fields of work," he said. “For instance, few know that the Freedom from Hunger Campaign is a United Nations activity.” About 23,000 United Nations employees worked in economic and social fields and only about 2000 in the poltical field. “But it is the political matters that make the headlines,” said Dr Szuszkiewicz.
