SAILPLANE REPAIRS
Workshop In
Timaru
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU.
A Timaru firm, Aerotech, Ltd, has re-established an engineering workshop specialising in the repair and maintenance of sailplanes. The only one of its kind in the South Island, it is under the supervision of a member of the former Christchurch organisation and a fullyqualified aircraft engineer specialising in sailplanes (Mr L. J. Mills). Mr Mills served his apprenticeship in Christchurch where he worked on powered aircraft for the National Airways Corporation and the Canterbury Aero Club.
He holds New Zealand Glider Association approvals and aircraft maintenance engineering qualifications. He also has studied the construction of the all-metal Slingsby T-53. Mr Mills was chief engineer of the Christchurch workshop where he was associated with the late Mr F. Dunn, who was killed on a test flight. The new workshop at the Timaru Airport at Levels expects to have about 20 customers a year for work in major repairs, modification, maintenance and construction.
All materials are imported and are subject to stringent Civil Aviation Department requirements and regulations.
