Kindergartens Seek Funds For Expansion
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 9. The annual conference of the Free Kindergarten Union, to be held in Blenheim from September 24 to 26, will be opened by the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella).
Representatives and observers from 67 affiliated associations throughout the country will attend. Among the 10 remits to be considered are some expressing concern about difficulties in meeting the growing demand for kindergarten experience and suggesting that greater use be made of existing premises. £t June 30 there were 276 recognised free kindergartens. Sixteen buildings are in construction and several committees are raising funds
to qualify for Government assistance. High costs and the economic situation are making this a difficult task, and the union is trying to establish a fund in which surplus money held by kindergartens could be made available to assist expansion of the service where the need is most acute.
