LYTTELTON P.O.

The Lyttelton Post Office should go, and quickly, said Cr R. H. Duff, when the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening again discussed what it considers a hazard created by the building, on the corner of Norwich Quay and Oxford Street He was commenting on a letter from the Post Office, which suggested that the council should apply in the normal way for National Roads Board help in widening Norwich Quay, as this work would, to some extent, govern the provision of a new office. Cr Duff said the council was getting nowhere. The Post-master-General (Mr Scott) seemed to have lost sight of the council’s valid complaint of the building causing a hazard to traffic turning left from the overbridge into Norwich Quay. The Post Office, said Cr Duff, was dangerous, regardless of any widening. Delay in rebuilding was not justified, especially as a site had been obtained for a new building.

The council referred the matter to its finance committee.
