LANDSLIDES IN FORMOSA
19 Feared Dead (N. Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyriffhr) TAIPEI, Sept. 8. Twenty - two Formosan aborigines were engulfed by landslides yesterday at Yuli, a village in east Formosa, the Associated Press has reported. All are feared dead. Reports said that seven members of a family were caught by a landslide while repairing their house, damaged in a recent typhoon. Fifteen neighbours trying to dig them out were engulfed by another landslide. About 300 persons, including civil defence workers, then gathered at the scene and | tried to rescue the entombed persons. About nine hours after the first landslide, they succeeded in extricating three bodies. Rescue operations are continuing, but without indication that anybody is left •live.
