N.Z. Lamb Not Responsible For Price Reduction

CANBERRA. Sept. 2. Imports of New Zealand lamb were not responsible for reduced prices in Australia, the Minister for Trade and Industry (Mr J. McEwen) said in Canberra. Mr McEwen said the reduced prices were due to unusually heavy yardings of lamb after the recent drought There had been an inquiry by the Australian Meat Board to determine the reasons for reduced mutton and lamb prices in recent weeks. Imports of New Zealand lamb were confined to Victoria and New South Wales, and had amounted to 0.5 per cent of Australian production.
