TROTTING Logan Count In Sound Trial At Addington

Although his time was not particularly fast, Logan Count recorded a fine trial for the Spring Handicap at the New Brighton meeting on Saturday when he worked yesterday at Addington Raceway. Other sound efforts were returned by Jay Queen, Major Bright, Gold Heritage, and Patriarch s Son.

A number of horses were given practice behind the starting gate. The trials were held in fine, cold weather with the track in good order. Most of the horses worked about 10 feet out from the rails.

Logan Count made the pace and looking to be trotting more strongly than Mighty Chief at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 25 3-ssec, the last half mile in Imin 4 3-ssec, and the final quarter in 30 3-ssec.

Logan Count was an unlucky fourth in a spectacular finish to the Winter Handicap on the second day of the recent national meeting. He dragged a punctured tyre for most of the race and finished only half a length from the winner, Rannach Lad. Logan Count will be a sound prospect on Saturday, while Mighty Chief will also be a place chance in spite of his awkward handicap of 42 yards.

Landlord went away a length in front of Major Bright and 18 yards in front of Bold Heritage. The pace was solid all the way and they completed 12 furlongs in 3min 17sec, with Landlord and Major Bright a length in front of their companion. They took Imin 3 2-ssec for their last half mile, the final quarter in 29 3-ssec.

Major Bright looks to be coming to hand well in pre-

paration for the Johns Handicap on Saturday. However, Gold Heritage was even more impressive. She is in the Avon Stakes, the second leg of the on-course double. She was doing her work well towards the finish and could surprise on Saturday. IMPRESSIVE Jav Queen, a chance in the Raceway Stakes on Saturday, was under a hold at the finish of a solo run over 12 furlongs in 3min 15sec, the last half mile in Imin 1 2-ssec, the final quarter in 30 2-ssec. Jay Queen recorded a fourth and a seventh at the national meeting and could do better on Saturday.

' Bright Highland, which is just starting to speed uo in her training, went easily over 12 furlongs in 3min 20sec, the last half mile in Imin 4sec. She is to have several runs at trials before resuming racing.

Tryout gave Goodray a start of 12 yards and finished on terms with him after taking 3min 17sec for 12 furlongs, the last half mile In Imin 5 4-ssec, and the final quarter in 32 l-ssec. Both are improving. Tryout is to remain in A. J. Bourne’s team until the Wellington meeting on September 14 and 17. Young Prince, a chance in the H. E. Goggin Handicap, the second leg of the main double on Saturday, was pacing easily throughout 12 furlongs in 3min 23 l-ssec, the last half mile in Imin 3 4-ssec, and the final quarter in 32sec. Young Prince looks improved by his races at the

national meeting and he might not be long showing form.

Jimmy Dieman made the pace, with Patriarch’s Son going easily alongside him at the finish of 12 furlongs in 3min 24sec, the last half mile in Imin 5 4-ssec. Patriarch's Son might not be long returning to form. Jimmy Dieman is coming to hand well.

Zulita went easily over 12 furlongs in 3min 25 l-ssec, the last half mile in Imin 6sec, and the final quarter in 32 2-ssec.

Spry and Bold Axworth were working well within themselves over 12 furlongs in 3min 21sec, the last half mile in Imin 4 2-ssec, and the final quarter in 31sec. Bold Axworth would only have to reproduce his training runs to be a chance in the Oxford Handicap on Saturday.

Frostibon and Selwyn Hanover finished a length in front of Bright Frost at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 19 2-ssec, the last half mile in Imin 4 l-ssec, and the final quarter in 30 2-ssec. Selwyn Hanover may resume racing at the Wellington meeting later in the month. Kaikoura Chief and Benmore worked quietly over 12 furlongs in 3min 28 l-ssec, increasing the pace to sprint their final half mile in imin ssec, with the last quarter in 30 2-sesc.
