RACING Beyond Selected At Rotorua

"The Press’' Special Service - AUCKLAND. Beyond, Hi There and Olde Chelsea should dispute the finish of the Bertram Steeplechase, the main jumping event at the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt meeting today.

With such a background of fine hurdling achievements, Beyond looks well placed with 9-12, even allowing for his failure the last time he tried a steeplechase. Hi There is the top-weight with 10-10. which is two pounds less than be carried into second in his last race, the Pakuranga Hunt Cup, at Ellerslie on August 24, The weight on Beyond is one pound less than he carried in his last jumping race, the Hastings Steeplechase, on June 29, when he fell. Beyond tackled the Hastings Steeplechase after racing well under big weights over hurdles. A fortnight before the Hastings Steeplechase he finished third under 11-13 in the Awapuni Hurdles and he finished third, not long before. with 11-9. in the Great Northern Hurdles. Good Effort Hi There made a good effort to win the Pakuranga Hunt Cup and he was not beaten until well into the last half mile. With his good jumping he will probably be with the leaders again this time and the better footing which is likely might enable him to last the course successfully. He has about two and a'

half miles to go this time, as against the three miles of the Ellerslie event After being a successful hurdler, Olde Chelsea won impressively in steeplechases at Tauranga and Wanganui in June. He returned to hurdling meanwhile to show good form at Ellerslie last month. As he looks a better steeplechaser than a hurdler these days, he merits very considerable respect with 9-7. Olde Chelsea will be receiving 171 b from Hi There and 51b from Beyond. Sifta Sam will be hard to beat if he comes anywhere near the form which won him the Waikato Steeplechase last May and the McGregor Grant Steeplechase at Ellerslie. Jumping Joe also has good recent form. Foxonewa, in the La Trobe Hill Handicap, and Golden Summit in the Flying Handicap seem good prospects for the T.A.B. double. The weather has been fine and the going will be easy. Selections: Noon. Managh Hurdles: Tawa Mahal, Sea Pennant, Classified. * 12.40 p m.—lnnovation Handicap—First Division: Carmonte. Ajar.
