MISSING LUGGAGE

(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. Luggage missing from vehicles salvaged from the Wahine had probably fallen out when the vehicles were lifted by crane, the New Zealand representative for P. and I. Services (Mr I. M. Mac Kay) said today. Mr Mac Kay was commenting on suggestions that personal belongings had been stolen before the cars reached the shore. In April there had been rumours that skin-divers had been inside the wreck souvenir hunting. United Salvage, Ltd, had a first-rate international reputation as a salvage firm, Mr Mac Kay said. The $llOO worth of luggage missing from inside a station waggon had probably fallen out the open rear door when the vehicle was lifted by the front axle. Once all the cars had been removed, divers would inspect the vehicle deck for any luggage left there, he said.

The next load of cars will be brought ashore from the Wahine tomorrow afternoon or on Thursday.
