Fast 5000m

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON.

The Australian, R. Clarke, on Monday ran the fastest 5000 metres in the world this year in setting a British allcomers record of 13min 27.8 sec at White City. The time, recorded in blustery conditions on a cinder track dampened by recent rains, gave Clarke’s gold medal chances in Mexico City another boost. He was only 11.2 sec outside his own world record.

The performance paralleled Clarke’s 10,000 metres effort in London last week when he was only lOsec outside his world record for this event.
