(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The New Zealand representative, Miss H. L. Kerr, of Auckland, yesterday an-

nounced her retirement from competitive swimming. She is 22. She dislocated a shoulder and damaged nerves in her arm before the national championships at New Plymouth, where she was to have defended her 110 and 220 yards butterfly titles. Miss Kerr’s best effort overseas was a fourth placing in the 220 yards butterfly at the Jamaican Commonwealth Games. Her time was a national record. She won the “Swimmer of the Year” award in 1966. A feature of her swimming career was that for five years she trained herself.
