In A Naughty World
The Japanese fishermen who rescued two Kaitaia youths from drowning during the week-end were awaiting the outcome of the prosecution of some of their number for fishing within New Zealand’s territorial waters. But they did not hesitate to go to the help of two youngsters from what the Japanese may regard as an inhospitable country. On the other side of the world a Russian vessel rescued five castaway Israeli sailors and made a 24-hour detour to avoid putting the Israelis ashore at a hostile Arab port.
These are trivialities, perhaps, beside the news of the invasion of Czechoslovakia, of starvation in Biafra, of the explosion of yet another hydrogen bomb in the Pacific; but such incidents help to restore faith in human decency.
