TROTTING Analysis Of Sire Statistics

Garrison Hanover, the leading sire for the last two seasons, topped the list in three pacing age groups last term. His progeny were the most successful three, four and six-year-olds raced in New Zealand.

Thurber Frost had a clear lead on the list of sires of two-year-olds, while Morris Eden topped the section for five-year-olds and Captain Adios the section

for aged horses. | Garrison Hanover led Thurber Frost by less than $2OOO as the top sire of three-year-old pacers last season, his best winners being Cardinal Garrison ($7435) and Praesidium ($2140). His best four-year-olds were Fort Nelson ($10,835), Stewart Hanover ($9810), Master Kent ($3820), Killadar ($3220). Dacron ($2850), Alpha Girl ($2321.50), Marbryn ($2110) and Valley Girl , ($2000). Garrison Hanover’s best five-year-olds were Julie Hanover ($8460). Vista Abbey I ($6690), Compromise ($3225) land Royal Fame ($2540). Like many sires. Garrison Hanover’s totals were affect'ed in some sections because lof the overseas demand for

his progeny. Two of his top four-year-olds of last season. Fort Nelson and Stewart Hanover, are already in the United States, while another in the group. Valley Girl, was shinped there in the autumn. Julie Hanover and Vista Abbey, two of his top five-year-olds, are also racing in America. Thurber Frost had a most successful season. As well as topping the two-year-old section. he finished second on the list of sires of three-year-olds, fourth on the list of four-year-olds, and his first crop put him i:i seventh place among the sires of five-year-I olds.

| His record is all the more remarkable when it is remembered that large numbers of his progeny are racing in Australia. Thurber Frost’s top two-year-olds were Garcon Roux ($6645) and his stablemate, General Frost ($4970). Morris Eden, now in Australia, had a lead of more than $5OOO on the list of sires of five-year-olds. His best performers, all of which raced in the North Island, were Aka Eden ($3480), Morris Hart ($3100), Coastaway ($3000) and Dover Eden ($2170). i Captain Adios was a clearI cut winner of the section for I aged pacers. He led Johnny Globe by almost $20,000. CapI tain Adios had Great Adios ($20,285) as his main contributor, but Byebye Bill j(57220) and Adioway ($2410) were other useful winners. A feature of the lists was I the success of the progeny of Hi Lo's Forbes, which had : four-year-olds as his oldest I progeny last season. He was third among the sires of two-year-olds, third among the sires of three-year-olds, and third among the horses a year older.
