Pleas Fail To Save Dogs

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NAPLES. Sept. 1. Over 300 dogs were finally condemned to the gas chamber in spite of world-wide appeals, offers of homes and fund-raising drives. The dogs’ death sentence was confirmed by a Health Ministry official, Dr Giuseppe Comotti, sent from Rome to review a local authority’s decision after the flood of protests against killing the dogs. Naples veterinary officials said the 327 dogs had come into contact with rabies and could easily escape and pass the killer disease on to humans.
