Government relief workers in the Taumarunui district are earning more than permanent county employees and farm workers, it was said at a meeting of the Taumarunui County Council. “There are more than 80 men employed by the Ministry of Works and Lands and Survey Department on temporary relief work in the Taumarunui district. Ministry of Works men receive 52.50 a fortnight more than men doing similar work for the Taurmarunui council.” said the county engineer, Mr R. C. Briggs.
