Southern Soccer Title And $5OO For City
Christchurch City won the first southern league soccer championship on Saturday. At English Park, City held on, desperately, to the point it needed to beat Rangers on goal average and take the $5OO first prize.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, Rangers missing a penalty in the twenty-third minute that would have won them the title.
Instead, both finished with 30 points. City’s goal average of 5.928 being superior by 1.390.
Rangers took the second prize of 8250 as runners-up, Technical (Christchurch) Sl5O for third place, and Northern SlOO for fourth. Northern settled the battle for the minor placing when it beat Shamrock, 5-1, at Dunedin. St Kilda. in fifth place by its 4-2 victory over Roslyn-Wakari, has one more match to play, against Shamrock next Saturday, but is three points behind. Further down the table, Western, 4-2 winner over Queen’s Park, moved ahead of Shamrock, but the latter can regain seventh place by beating St Kilda next week-end.

national Chatham Cup final against Eastern Suburbs (Auckland), narrowly beat Technical (Dunedin)) 1-0, K. Pahi scoring the only goal after twenty-one minutes.
