Lucerne Plan To Go Ahead
The New Zealand Lucerne Products Company, Ltd, which will include farmer shareholders, is proceeding with a project to manufacture lucerne pellets or meal in the Hinds district for export to Japan.
A director of the company, Mr A. R. Reith, of Hinds, said last evening that the company had an adequate acreage of lucerne to go ahead. Negotiations had been completed for a five-acre rite at the corner of Coldstream and Boundary Roads for a factory. Mr G. Baker, project manager of Dalhoff and King, which is associated with the
project, was in Ashburton on Friday making final arrangements with the Ashburton Electric Power Board for the supply of power. Mr Baker also met directors of the company on the factory rite and subsequently went with Mr Reith to Timaru to have talks with the Timaru Harbour Board and a shipping agent about storage of pallets containing bags of meal or pellets before shipping. Discussions were also held about stevedoring.
