PRAGUE, September 1
The Czechoslovak Deputy Minister of the Interior (Dr Jan Zaruba) has committed suicide after refusing to hand over Ministry files to Russian secret police, according to wellinformed sources.
Dr Zaruba is believed to have been a close supporter of the Minister of the Interior (Mr Josef Pavel) who, it was announced yesterday, has resigned at his own request from the Government.
Mr Pavel had been severely criticised by the Soviet press.
The sources say Russian secret police entered Dr Zaruba’s office and demanded to see documents and files.
He refused and later shot himself.
