Health Brings New Problem
(M.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) . PORT MORESBY, Aug. 29. The improved health and 1 diet of Papuans and New Guineans could cause serious birth complications for native
women, a medical symposium was told yesterday. Dr A. J. Radford of the territory’s Department of Health, said at a meeting of the Papua-New Guinea Medical Society in Lae that the birth size of babies was increasing because of the better nutritional diets available to pregnant women. But the women themselves had grown up on poorer diets and probably because of this their growth and stature were retarded. Dr Radford said their bodies were only developed to give birth to small babies and possibly they did not have the pelvic development to deliver big babies.
