Lindsay Rescues Rest Of World

(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.)

LONDON.

D. Lindsay, of South Africa, led the Rest of the World XI out of trouble against the Australians at Lord’s on Saturday, scoring 73 not out for the World XI, which had reached 219 for seven wickets at the tea adjournment.

A heavy rainstorm during tea prevented any play in the last session.

Lindsay hit two sixes and eight fours in an innings of just under two hours. His unfinished stand of 96 with R. Ramnarace (West Indies) rescued the World XI from a desperate plight, after its first seven wickets had fallen for 123.

Fine hostile bowling by the Australians, D. Renneberg and A. Connolly, who captured five wickets between them, wrecked the early World XI batting.

Renneberg captured the wickets of Pakistan’s Hanif Mohammad and Saeed Ahmed, and the West Indian, S. Nurse, for only 37 runs. It was a sharp rebuke to the tour-team selectors who had left Renneberg out of the five test matches against England this summer. But Australian hopes of finishing the English tour in a blaze of glory were roughly

jolted by Lindsay, who relished the opportunity to shake the Australian bowling by the scruff of its neck. He hit eight boundaries, and twice hit towering sixes off A. Mallett.
