TRACTOR SAFETY
Position Of Step
(N.Z. Press Association)
LEVIN, August 30.
It appeared that a recent tractor fatality may have been partly due to the position of the step on the tractor, the Levin District Coroner (Mr R. C. Steele) said today at an inquest into the death of lan Philip Anderson, aged 21, married, a Levin farm worker. Because of the position of the step, it had been necessary for Mr Anderson to cross in front of the moving rear wheel in order to reach the throttle or the driver’s seat, the Coroner said. “Accordingly, I suggest that the appropriate authorities should consider this aspect of the matter, and possibly recommend to the manufacturers, or others concerned, that modification in the siting of the step be considered in the interests of tractor safety,” he said.
