Transport Changes
He was entirely in favour of the formation of a ministry of transport, and, as its executive arm, regional transport authorities, said the retiring District Commissioner of Works (Mr D. B. Dallas), when he was bidden farewell at a Christchurch-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority meeting on. Wednesday. In many places, said Mr Dallas, transport was suffering from the disease of fragmentation, which might once have been a good thing, but was so no longer. Amalgamation and coordination in a sensible combination should present the answer to the problem. “Transport must bring special interests together,” said Mr Dallas. “The container age is proving that It is proving now that coordination of the various forms of transport must be achieved.”
