Solid Gallop By Casca

"The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. Casca completed his preparation for the Waikaka Handicap at the Eastern Southland Hunt Club's meeting with an attractive gallop at Wingatui yesterday. Working on the plough, which was in excellent order, Casca (J. B. Dowling) and Gunga Din (E. J. Didham) ran five furlongs In Imln 4 3-Srec, the last three furlongs in 38 4-ssec. Casca is the early favourite for the Walkaka Handicap after his last-start win at the Grand National meeting. Mighty Bed (M. Cuttance) and Royal Harken (G. Couch) were not extended over .five furlongs in Imln Bse| after taking 27sec for the first'two furlongs. Gladaub (A. K. Robinson) and Mighty Peak (W. McEwen) showed their fitness by running half a mile on the inside gras, In 51see continuing a strong gallop over the last three furlongs In 38sec.

Hushaway (B. P. Kennedy) made a bold effort over four flights of hurdles. He is due to have his first start as a lumper in the Kennels Hurdles.
