A SNOWMOBILE, the only vehicle of its kind in New Zealand, being tested by Mr P. Farrell, a director of Alpine Instruction, Ltd, on a snow slope below the Ball Hutt, Mount Cook National Park. The vehicle is one of two used by Sir Edmund Hillary’s party during preparations for the ascent of Mount Herschel, in the Antarctic, last October. It has a top speed of 40 miles an hour on the flat, and can tow up to eight skiers on a gentle slope.
