FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A ridge of high pressure extends across central New Zealand from an anticyclone in the northern Tasman Sea; a north-westerly airstream over the south Tasman Sea is spreading on to the South Island. Forecast; Canterbury.—Moderate north-easterlies on and near the coast but north-westerlies becoming fresh in exposed inland areas; mostly fine apart from some morning fog and low cloud; mild during the day. Marlborough.—North-westerlies fresh or strong about Cook Strait; some cloudy areas about the Sounds, otherwise fine; rather mild by day. Nelson and Buller.—-Light or moderate variable winds; mainy fine apart from some areas of cloud this morning; mild during the day. Westland.—Moderate variable winds, mainly northerlies; cloudy; occasional rain in the south and some showers developing in the north during the day; moderate temperatures.
