McCORMICK PAST 1000
W. F. McCormick has, in his last two matches for Canterbury, attained the heights among points scorers in New Zealand first-class Rugby.
On Saturday, against Auckland, McCormick became the third New Zealander to pass 1000 points in first-class Rugby. Only D. B. Clarke (1851) and M. Williment (1246) are still ahead of him.
Yesterday, at Wanganui, McCormick kicked 10 points to take his total for the sea-
son—in domestic first-class Rugby, and for the All Blacks overseas—to 201.
McCormick has now played 182 first-class matches, including 129 for Canterbury, and has scored 1011 points. Among his many notable achievements are the greatest number of tries by a fullback, 35. On five occasions, including two tours, McCormick has scored more than 100 points in a season. In matches in New Zealand this season he has scored 81 points. A. E. Hopkinson, the Canterbury and All Black prop, also reached a milestone in his career, against Auckland. It was his 100th first-class match since his debut for South Canterbury in 1962.
