AUCKLAND DRIVERS
Settlement Of Dispute
(N Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Aug. 28. Peace has been reached in an industrial dispute that has led to strikes and lock-out threats involving more than 1300 drivers since 1966. The agreement is between the Auckland Master Carriers’ Association, the Auckland Bowser-Driver Carriers’ Association, and the Northern Drivers’ Union. The agreement is said to be in the interests of achieving stability of wage rates, and general harmony, in the carrying industry. Drivers with three months’ continuous service with an employer will get $1.50 a week above the award rate, and those with six months or more, $2. Those who have worked for the same employer for a year will get $3.33 a week above the award. These extra payments—which do not affect overtime rates—are retrospective to August 19.
