MUNICIPAL POLL

Extra Voting Places

More than the usual number of polling places will be open in the Christchurch City Council’s area for the local body elections on October 12. For the last elections, in 1965, 125 polling places were used.

Cr H. P. Smith, a member of a council sub-committee appointed to consider the number of polling booths to be open during the five days before the election, said last evening that the decision to open 13 booths in advance did not affect the number of ordinary polling places to be open on October 12. From October 7 to 10, the 13 special booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.: on Frid-’', October 11, they will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. All the polling places will be open on October 12 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. The council has announced that the supplementary roll for the municipal elections will close on September 20. The main roll may be inspected and enrolment forms obtained at the City Council offices or at the Canterbury Public Library. Street stands will also accept enrolments. Three stands will be manned dally in Cathedral Square, Cashel Street, and Armagh Street; and others, listed in a public notice by the Town Clerk (Mr M. B. Hayes) today, will open for one day in 12 suburban shopping areas.
