UNIVERSAL SUFFRAGE

Special Stamp Issue The seventy-fifth anniversary of universal suffrage in New Zealand will be commemorated by the Post Office with the issue on September 19 of a special 3c stamp with a design symbolic of universal suffrage. On the same day a special issue of 10c stamps will be made to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The usual first day of issue hand cancellations will be available at all chief post offices, and at Christchurch, special machine cancellations will be available. Special posting boxes will be provided at the postal inquiry counter, Cathedral Square, and at the philatelic sales section in Hereford Street for the reception of covers to be postmarked in either of these ways. Persons who cannot call at the Chief Post Office may send addressed covers to the Chief Postmaster by September 16.
