Crossbred Wool Again Dearer

The coarser wools had the best of the market when the wool-selling season continued yesterday with the first Christchurch sale.

The finer crossbred wools and the coarser halfbred and Corriedale wools gained up to 24 per cent on the better sale at Timaru last Friday.

Other classes of coarse wool were also very firm and tended in sellers’ favour.

Crossbred wool was selling steadily from about 25c to 35c.

Fine and medium halfbreds certainly brought no better prices than were paid at Timaru, and could have been easier.

Only an odd sale of halfbred and Corriedale wool was made at 50c per lb or better.

Compared with the last Christchurch sale in May crossbred wools were 3c to 5c per lb dearer and the stronger halfbreds also showed a big improvement.

There was an almost complete clearance of the 22,576 bales offered.
