The official report on yesterday's Christchurch wool sale issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission. says:

"The offering of 22.576 bales was drawn mainly from Canterbury. Marlborough, the West> Coast and Nelson, and comprised more than 50 per cent, new season's fleece wool, 25 per cent crutchings. with the balance oddments and secondshear.

"The fleece wool was mainly well grown, sound and generally of good colour, although a proportion of the finer wools tended to show some discoloration due to the unusually wet winter. The crutchings on offer were better grown than usual, but light stain faulted many lots, and this again can be attributed to the seasonal conditions experienced. Mud in bellies and crutchings was also a common fault.

"Competition was fairly general. the Continent being the principal buyer, with support from Japan, local mills, and Eastern Europe.

“Compared with the recent Timaru sale, fine and medium halfbreds were unchanged, and extra fine and fine crossbreds can be quoted up to 24 per cent dearer. Medium crossbreds tended in sellers’ favour. Coarse and strong crossbreds were firm.

“Bellies and pieces generally tended against the buyer, whilst halfbred crutchings were inclined to be erratic but generally unchanged. Crossbred crutchings were firm."
