SYDNEY Mining stocks, especially nickels, suffered minor set backs in the afternoon session of trading as profit takers appeared to move into the market. Mining shares made further gains on the Melbourne Stock Exchange and some profit taking occurred in a few nickel stocks. King Island Scheelite reached a record 1060 before-closing at 1040 up 140, in response to Consolidated Gold Fields’ offer to buy 50 per cent of the company. Metals Exploration lost 80c and closed at 1130. In oils, Magellan rts gained 15c to 305. Industrials were slightly higher with rises outnumbering falls. B. added 20 to close at 2200.
