‘Excellent’ Response To Gregg’s Bid
The responae to the offer from W. Gregg and Company, Ltd, Dunedin, for 49 per cent of the shares in Wilson Malt Extract Company, Ltd, had been excellent, said the chairman of Greggs (Mr C. D. Baker). No elaboration would be given on the numbers of Wilson Malt shareholders who took up the offer which was four Gregg shares for every five Wilson Malt, with the offer confined to one in every four shares held.
The offer expired yesterday.
A spokesman for the company said, however, that in spite of the latest developments it was still too early to forecast success or otherwise for the industry. Agreed With Comments
The chairman of Wilson Malt (Mr J. T. L. Braithwaite) would not comment other than to say he would agree with the remarks of the Gregg spokesman. The shareholders had been written to individually by Greggs, a decision . for or against resting with them, said Mr Braithwaite.
