VIETNAMESE ORPHANS
Selection Of Parents
Whether couples were churchgoers or not would have no bearing on the success of their applications to adopt Vietnamese orphans, said the Rev. R. M. O’Grady, resettlement officer for the National Council of Churches Mr O’Grady said that the National Council of Churches and the Roman Catholic Committee on Immigration would help the Child Welfare Department to make the selection.
Already more than 100 applications had been received, 82 of them by the Christchurch office and about 55 in Wellington, although there could have been some doubling. Mr O’Grady said that the selection would be made solely on the basis of who would be the best parents. The number of orphans to be adopted would depend on the number of applications. He said some of the children might be flown out to New Zealand before Christmas.
Applicants should write to “Operation Child Rescue,” P.O. Box 2500, Wellington.
