TALKS IN U.N.

No Czech Part

<NZ.PA.-Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK, Aug. 27.

Czechoslovakia announced last night that it would not take part in any future meeting of the Security Council on the Czechoslovak crisis.

The statement, issued by the Czechoslovak delegation, said this was being done so as not to interfere with the talks in Moscow which, it said, were aimed at ending the occupation of Czechoslovakia by five Warsaw Pact countries. The council cancelled a session called for earlier yesterday because of the negotiations in Moscow between Czechoslovak leaders and those of Russia, Poland, Hungary and East Germany whose forces occupied Czechoslovakia last week. No date was set for another session of the council. Czechoslovakia made three statements during the five meetings of the council, the last one by its Foreign Minister, Mr Jari Hajeck.

Ceausescu’s Demand (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BUCHAREST, August 27. The Rumanian President, Mr Nicolae Ceausescu, today demanded immediate reinstatement of the legal Prague Government and withdrawal of occupation troops from Czechoslovakia. He was making a speech to cheering crowds in the central mountain town of Brasov in which he avoided any direct reply to Moscow’s attacks on him for aiding a counter-revolution in Czechoslovakia. His speech was in sharp contrast to a cautious, even conciliatory, editorial in the Communist Party newspaper, “Scienteia,” yesterday indicating that Rumania might be hesitating about antagonising Russia further by supporting Czechoslovakia.
