Painting Raffle
An Austen Deans painting of the Rangitata River from Peel Forest has been presented by the artist to Lincoln College for its residential halls appeal. The college has obtained a permit for it to be raffled. Rangiora Trek Many children who took part in the Rangiora Amateur Swimming Club’s “heat-the-pool” trek last Saturday have been agreeably surprised to find that sponsors often are paying more than the agreed mileage rate. Others, however, have been rebuffed when they have gone to collect sponsors' money. Some sponsors did not expect the children to walk so far. Until midday yesterday, $lO4 had been handed in as proceeds from the trek. During this week the club treasurer (Mrs S. G. Grazier) has set up a receiving office in the Rangiora Memorial Hall, and sponsors’ money may be handed in there by trek participants between 10 a.m. and noon. New Market For the first time exports from Lichfield (N.Z.), Ltd, including day shirts, shortie pyjamas and leisure shirts, were being distributed to the New Hebrides, a director of the company, Mr J. G. Aston, said yesterday. Other summer deliveries were also being distributed to Fiji, Tonga and Samoa, he said. Silica Sand The export of silica sand from Mount Somers was a matter for the Timaru Harbour Board, but the board and the principal of the proposed trade (Mr R. A. Burnett, of Ashburton) had been assured of the Timaru City Council's “wholehearted support,” said the Mayor of Timaru (Mr D. R. Dowell) this week.—(F.O.O.R.)
