LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25. United States women swimmers—most of them girls under 20—broke pending world records eight times when the four-day Olympic swimming trials opened in Los Angeles on Saturday. Debbie Meyer, just turned 16 in the 200 metres freestyle and Claudi Kolb, aged 18, in the 400 metres medley were the stars of the day. Miss Meyer bettered her world record of 2min 9.7 sec, clocking 2min 6.Bsec in the 200 metres freestyle, after returning 2min Bsec in one of the heats.
Three other girls also bettered 2min 9sec in the final.
