CONDEMNED MAN Flight Offered To Parents
IN Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) DARWIN, August 23. The Portuguese parents of a convicted murderer, Jose Manuel da Costa—sentenced to hang—may be flown to Darwin to see him. Da Costa, aged 29, married, is under sentence of death for the murder of a Darwin contractor, Andreas Koklas, in January. An appeal against the sentence was rejected by the High Court in Sydney yesterday, and unless the sentence is commuted by the Executive Council or the GovernorGeneral, da Costa is due to be hanged on September 3. The Portuguese Consul in Darwin, Mr P. J. Daluz, said last night that the Portuguese airline T.A.P. had offered to fly da Costa’s mother and father from Portugal to see him.
Delegate!.—The chairman of the Canterbury Education Board (Mr A. S. Murray), its finance committee chairman (Mr D. L. Waghorn), and the secretary-manager (Mr W. P. Spencer) will be delegates to the Education Boards’ Association conference in Napier next month.
