WELLINGTON. The Carterton trainer. D. M. Alexander, looks to have an early winner in the four-year-old gelding, Sandy Hal. an impresslve qualifier at Hutt Partk on Saturday. By Klllarney Hal, which Alexander has on lease from Mr R. A. McKenzie, Sandy Hal is out Of the Gowan Globe mare, Sangro, the dam of Frosty Glow. Sandy Hal, a big gelding whose gait belles his speed, led all the way to win in Smin 21sec for the mile and half. He Is owned in partnership by Alexander and Messrs S. Jensen and G. Udy. Sandy Hal won by 10 lengths from Sandal Bay, which should not be long qualifying. Sandal Bay broke at the start and was last of the four to the two furlongs. He started to make ground from then on and wore Mark Hanover out of second by a length. Sandal Bay is by Scottish Command out of Fable Bay and is also trained by Alexander. He recorded 3mln 23 4-ssec fourfifths of a second outside the required time. Cambridge (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND.
