FASTEST TIME ON ROLLER SKATES
The New Zealand roller skating champion, G. E. Glover, last evening skated by far the fastest 10,000 metres in this country.
Racing a special time trial over the distance, Glover recorded 17min 57.35ec, which was nearly 3mln less than his own previous fastest time set three years agoIt is unlikely to be submitted as a New Zealand record, however, as there were insufficient officials present, although there were three stop-watches on Glover. It represents an improvement of 4min by Glovet after time trials in March. The world record, set by an Italian, G. Venanzi, in 1947, is 16min 54sec. The effort by Glover was outstanding as he was hindered by a cold easterly wind, and the cool conditions made the car club track at Ruapuna Park slower than normal. He will race a 5000 metre time trial tomorrow evening, whan R- Alexander win, if time and light permit, race over 2000 metres. Both Glover and Miss Alexander alto set unofficial Hew Zealand marks oh Sup. day evening. Glover covered the one mile in 2min 34sec, 30sec inside the New Zealand record held
by himself and G. Brader, and only 7.ssec outside the world record.
Miss Alexander's 2min 46sec, also for one mile, easily excelled the record held by another New Zealand team member, Miss M. Macdonald, at 3min 17sec.
