POLICEMEN CORNERED
Youths Cause Trouble
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright)
CHICAGO, Aug. 26.
A group of 100 youths last night cornered 10 policemen in a Chicago park and taunted them with lighted cigarettes and pebbles before a relief squad of 50 policemen with truncheons drawn scattered them.
The 10 policemen, stationed in a line inside Lincoln Park, their backs to the red brick wall of a building, were hemmed in by hippies and members of the Youth International Party (“yippies”) who were in the park celebrating what they called “The Festival of Life.”
Nine of their companions had been arrested earlier in the day during a melee with police.
