Missionary School
The place of medical missions today was discussed by Dr A. D. Iliff, a former medical missionary on the northwest frontier of Pakistan for 28 years and medical secretary of the Church Mission Society since 1963 at the opening of the Church Missionary Society’s spring school at St Margaret’s College last evening. More than 130 persons are attending the school, which will end on Thursday. Each morning Bible studies will be held on “The Authority of Christ,” led by the Rev. J. R. Reid, rector of Christ Church, Gladesville, New South Wales. He has conducted similar studies in countries throughout the world, including East Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, India and Nepal. At 11.30 a.m. there will be information and prayer sessions and each afternoon from 3.45 p.m. to 5 p.m. there will be a discussion session including the three aspects of missionary work—medical, pastoral and technical. Morning and afternoon sessions will be conducted by Church Missionary Society missionaries home in New Zealand on furlough. They are Miss V. H. Baker, who has been working in West Pakistan for the last 10 years; Dr K. Dailey and Mrs Dailey, who have returned to New Zealand after nearly 14 years service in Tanzania; Mr I. D. Foster and Mrs Foster, who are working at a new rural training centre at Buhembia, Tanzania: and Miss J. M. Murray, who is on a post-graduate course at the Los Angeles University to gain experience for literature work in Nairobi.
